Nicholas Bennett was educated at New College, Oxford, and at the University of York where he completed a doctorate in medieval church history. He worked for more than twenty years in local archives, including twelve years at Lincolnshire Archives Office where he became familiar with the history, records and topography of the county. He is currently Vice-Chancellor and Librarian of Lincoln Cathedral, where he is responsible for the historic collections of books and manuscripts. He has a long-standing research interest in the medieval diocese of Lincoln and is editing The Registers of Henry Burghersh 1320-1342 for the Society.
