Michael Jones

Michael’s main field of specialism is the history of medieval France, particularly that of the duchy of Brittany. Among many publications, he has edited several volumes of documents and had a good training for the Presidency with seven years as Literary Director of the Royal Historical Society. As President, he represents the Society at public functions, chairs meetings and is guided by the other officers, council and the general membership in formulating policies to carry out its charitable purpose.

Now retired from teaching at the University of Nottingham, Michael is still active as a researcher, frequently visiting France, but also happily discovering local history in Nottinghamshire. He is chairman of the Local Committee of the National Trust for Tattershall Castle. Outside history, keeping an allotment, walking and sight-seeing are his main spare time occupations.
